My wife asked her friend how she landed her current job.  The response was something all too familiar to me.

I was just in right place at the right time.

Looking back, there have been times in my life where I think I might have been at the right place.  For example, landing an internship that eventually turned into a job.  Wrote about that a here.

There have been times where I maybe just missed the mark…

What struck me to write this post is the idea of putting yourself into right place and time.

Can someone prescribe their own destiny or is it pure luck?

For me, the answer is pretty simple. Being in the right place implies a physical location.  In order to succeed, you have to physically go to new places and meet new people.

At networking events, meetups, workshops and even online events can open exciting dialog that is primed for sparking ideas and making connections that lead to more introductions and opportunities.

Not to mention the valuable interpersonal feedback received from others.
